At a sitting of the Senate on Tuesday February 3, 2015 several changes in membership were made. The Vice-President of the Senate announced the revocation of the appointments of Senator the Honourable Timothy Hamel-Smith, Senator the Honourable Anand Ramlogan, SC, Senator the Honourable Gary Griffith, Senator the Honourable Emmanuel George and Senator the Honoruable Embau Moheni.
Appointed to the Senate are Mr. Garvin Nicholas (Attorney General), Brigadier General Carlton Alphonso (Minister of National Security), Mr. Brent Sancho (Minister of Sport), Mrs. Christine Newallo-Hosein (Minister of the People and Social Development) and Mr. Kwasi Mutema (Minister of State in the Ministry of the People and Social Development.
Several Ministerial portfolio additions and subtractions resulted from these appointments. All of these changes are now reflected in the Member portfolios on our website.
Finally, due to the revocation of the appointment of Senator the Honourable Timothy Hamel-Smith, President of the Senate, the Senate proceeded to elect Senator Raziah Ahmed as President of the Senate, the second woman to hold this office in Trinidad and Tobago.
