Hector McClean

Mr. Hector Ormsby Naughton McClean was born on April 03, 1940. He was married to Dr. Rosemarie Paul and the father of two. Mr. McClean was an Attorney-at-law having been called to the Bar of Gray’s Inn in 1963. He was elected as Member of Parliament (Tunapuna) in 1971 when he was appointed a Cabinet Minister. He was re-elected a Member of Parliament (Arouca) in 1976 and served as a Cabinet Minister until his resignation in 1978. During the period 1971-1978 he served in the Ministries of Legal Affairs, National Security, Labour and Social Security and Cooperatives and Works, Transport and Communications.

When Mr. McClean left Parliament in 1981 he was appointed a Judge of the Industrial Court, a position he held until 1984. Between 1987 and 1991 he served as Deputy Secretary General at the London Headquarters of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (C.P.A.). In 1998 Mr. McClean was elected International President of the C.P.A. He was sworn in as Speaker of the 5th Republican Parliament (1995 to 2000) on November 27, 1995 and served in that capacity until January 12, 2001.

Mr. McClean passed away on February 10, 2005.
