Extension of Invitation for Written Submissions – Parliamentary Autonomy

A Joint Select Committee of Parliament has been established to consider and report on Legislative Proposal entitled, "The Draft Houses of Parliament Service Authority Bill, 2014." – View Committee Page

The Legislative Proposal seeks to achieve efficient and autonomous management and administration of the Parliament. It proposes the dismantling and replacing of the existing public service model with an independent non-partisan Houses of Parliament Service Authority, a body corporate to be managed by a Board.

 

The proposed Board will be chaired by the Speaker and comprise of Members of Parliament representative of the Government, the Opposition and the Independent Senate bench. 

The Committee wishes to invite all stakeholders and interested persons to submit written comments/suggestions on a pre-policy paper entitled "Towards an Independent Parliament – Ensuring Parliament’s Functional Autonomy."  

 

This paper reflects the approach that informed the Legislative Proposal and upon the conclusion of consultations the Committee’s policy will be finalized. This paper can be accessed in electronic format from the Parliament’s website.

Written submissions should be addressed to the Secretary to the Committee as stated below and can be forwarded via email to jscparlautonomy@ttparliament.org or in hard copy.
